What are some tricks and resources to get a cheap flight

What are some tricks and resources to get a cheap flight?
What are the best websites to try (cheaptickets, expedia, priceline, etc.)? What are the best days and/or times to find cheap flights? I could leave anytime between Thursday and Saturday, return Sunday or Monday. The flight is from New York City to Buffalo, NY and I only need one ticket (my 1-year-old will be joining me though). I also do not need a hotel, will be staying with a friend.

You should pick Hotwire.com. You probably never heard of it but it is THE lowest hotel prices. 116 dollars a night for 5 nights in a 3 1/2 star hotel. GREAT rates try it. i did a comarison on some of the ones you mentioned. Priceline was the most xpensive. Also you can get what you need such as hotel and airline togther iin a package and a rental car any kind, convertible, luxury, full size, mid size, compact and so much more! there is diffrent companies such as hertz enterprize and others. just try it!!!!! best rates available

Well, I commonly use Priceline to find available tickets. Then, I got to the Airline's website itself to compare prices, sometimes they are cheaper right from the source itself!! I would say leave Thursday, for a weekday would be cheaper than a weekend (including Friday). Also, return monday! Again, its a weekday. Thats the best advice I've got!

Flights are always cheaper on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I've had good experiences with expedia and travelocity; never tried cheaptickets. The down side of priceline is you have to buy the ticket even if it turns out to be a deal you aren't crazy about. The up side is tickets can be really cheap. Prices go up the closer it gets to the date of the flight, and may also go up if gas prices are raised and you haven't locked in a ticket. Hope you have a great flight! :-)

Leaving during the week is your best bet. I did a search for you assuming that you are going to leave Thurs and return Sunday: http://go.travelpn.com/flights/AirSearch.do?SEQ=1180887242347532007&affiliateId=10009590&subAffiliateId=YTB163499 This is where I book ALL my flights b/c I travel a lot and I had a bad experience with cheaptickets.com. Anyways, I hope you find something :)

I'm going to disagree slightly with the other answers, and recommend you go to the 2 airlines offering nonstop flights between NYC and BUF, and those are JetBlue and Delta. For a weekend trip, you don't want to mess around with connections (which you can get with Hotwire or P'line) and possibly paying too much--for a short trip, keep it simple. http://www.jetblue.com and http://www.delta.com -- in fact, you might find 1 cheaper one direction, and the other cheaper the other direction, so mix/match if it's cheaper that way for you.
