They think that Ice built up on the wings of the plan during mid air then it crashed onto a house somewhere near buffalo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_Airlines_Flight_3407

The cause of the crash will probably take many months to find with any certainty. Based on what I have heard from various news sources I believe that there was an ice buildup on the critical flight surfaces that may have caused a significant change in the geometry of the wing, changing the airflowover the wing. When the pilot deployed the flaps for landing the combination of the ice accumulation and flap extension changed the geometry of the wing such that the wing stalled and the aircraft departed controlled flight. Tragically, there was not sufficient altitude for the aircrew to recover from the stall.

Flight 3407 was supposed to land in an airport in Buffalo. Ice built up on the wings. The commander reached someone and told what happened (via radio). Next thing you know it crashed into a house. 50 people died. 49 onboard and 1 person within the house.

They were coming from Newark, New Jersey to the Buffalo airport. Ice was apparently on the wings. They had it on autopilot, which is ok to do but I think given the fact that the weather is bad I wish that they didn't. They can feel possible problems with the plane if they are actually flying it. This happened Thursday evening around 10:30. It spun around facing the opposite direction for which it was headed and landed flat. The black box, which is located in the tail was sent to Washington. There was no stress conditions on the plane prier to. Fifty people died, one of which was inside the house. The airport was just six miles from the crash site. I believe that it could have been much worse. The New York State thruway is near there also; it could have taken out a lot more people than it did.
